Alexander Ipatov is an International Chess Grandmaster, two-time Turkish National Chess Champion, World Junior Chess Champion and winner of many international tournaments around the world, both individually and as part of a team. He has been consecutively ranked as the highest-rated chess player in Turkey since January 2016. He represented Turkey in 3 World Chess Olympiads (Istanbul 2012, Tromso 2014 and Baku 2016), 2 European Team Championships (Warsaw 2013 and Reykjavik 2015) and a World Team Chess Championship (Antalya 2013). He was the driving force behind Turkey’s qualification to the 2017 World Team Chess Championship in Khanty-Mansiysk, Russia, by showing a 2700+ perfomance on Board 2 and bringing a crucial victory against the Georgian team in the last round of the 2016 World Chess Olympiad.
As of April 2019, he occupies 109th position among active chess players in the world and 76th position in Europe with the ELO rating 2650.
He is also the author of the «Unconventional Approaches to Modern Chess», educational book released by Thinkers Publishing in February 2019, which is available for sale in the UK, USA, Netherlands, Germany, France, Belgium, Spain, Czech Republic, Poland and other countries. He has also been a frequent contributor to world’s most read chess magazines such as Chess Life, Chess Informant, American Chess Magazine and New in Chess Yearbook.
